The gateway to the moor
In the visitor centre, you can learn everything about the moor and peat in an exhibition, as well as about the moor corpse found in 2000 "Moora, the girl from the Uchter Moor".

The adjoining café "Altes Torfwerk" invites visitors with delicious delicacies and freshly harvested products from natural cultivation such as asparagus, strawberries and blueberries.

Since 2001, the permanent exhibition about "Moora", the oldest bog body, has been located in the direct vicinity of the gate to the bog. "Moora, the girl from the Uchter Moor" is the most important bog body find in northern Germany. In addition to the exhibition, there are archaeological hands-on activities and various cultural events.

Moor Railway Uchte-Essern
The moor railway departs from its station in Essern at the "Gate to the Moor" visitor centre opposite the former peat works. There are a total of 5 different locomotives on the Moorbahn Essern.
