Regional museum Museum

Alles Wissenswerte über die Dümmer Region entdecken

In the Dümmer Museum, visitors learn everything worth knowing about the main topics: Primeval landscape and cultural landscape, diversity of nature and nature conservation and Stone Age to touch around the Dümmer. Alternating special exhibitions and special days round off the museum's programme.

The Dümmer Museum
Located in the heart of Lembruch on the shores of Lake Dümmer, the Dümmer Museum is not to be missed. During a visit you will learn a lot about the history of the development of the Dümmer. An indoor and a newly designed outdoor aquarium are home to numerous fish, aquatic animals and plant species that occur in Lake Dümmer. It is not only fascinating for children to encounter tench, bream and rudd up close behind glass and observe their habits. The eels, however, which are offered smoked around the Dümmer, no longer come from the Dümmer nowadays, but are still worth a taste test.

Research station 'Life in the water'
An environmental education offer of the Dümmer Museum is the research station 'Life in the water', funded by the German Federal Foundation for the Environment. On Friday afternoons, or for groups by appointment, experts provide insights into the nature of water and plankton. Together, water samples are examined with a microscope and explained and analysed in a way that children and young people can understand. A PC programme provides up-to-date data on the water balance and water quality of the Dümmer. Those who still have unanswered questions can satisfy their hunger for knowledge with the specialist literature available.

Exhibitions and action days
The Dümmer Museum regularly hosts exhibitions by artists from the region or organises action days such as the wool and sheep market, Stone Age Sundays and takes part in the holiday programme with activities such as egg dyeing or felting for children. You can find out the specific dates either in our calendar of events or on the homepage.
